Feathership

In 2006, under the pseudonym Jay Pea, Jean-Philippe Sauvé launches Arrivals and Departures, immediately acclaimed by critics. That same year, the songwriter meets producer Vincent Blain, founder of the band L’indice. For some years, both musicians leisurely polish the demo of what will become a great new band on the Montreal scene: Feathership. Their buddies join for fun: Gregory Leclair-Paquet (ex-guitarist from The Stills and member of Plaza Musique), Mathieu Véziau (drummer for Mille Monarques and L’indice) and Étienne Rocheleau (bassist member of L’indice). Feathership plunges us undoubtedly into an authentic musical universe where indie rock meets psych-folk. “Feathership is pretty much the contrast between lightness and loudness. There is a kind of softness, which flows throughout the songs, but always tied to a palpable tension in the background”, says front man Jean-Philippe Sauvé. In January 2009, the band walked into Montreal’s Masterkut Studios and created a sound that reminds us of Donovan, Elliot Smith, and Fleet Foxes. The 6 songs of the self-titled debut-EP features many sounds from the 60′s, and retains post-rock elements which are definitely modern. “The mood for the final recording was fantastic.
